How to edit a talking video without cutting anyone off mid-sentence

The fastest way to ruin a talking video is a cut that lands mid-word. "This is the reason I st—" and on to the next shot. Plenty of automatic editors cut on length, not on language, and it shows.

The short answer

RawCut treats speech differently from scenery. When someone is talking, it cuts at the end of a sentence. It also shortens long hesitations and cuts out quick restarts, so a rambling take comes out tight.

Whole sentences

RawCut knows where each spoken sentence starts and ends. When it uses a talking moment, it extends the cut to the full sentence. And when the video has to shrink to fit the length you chose, it trims the shots without talking first. If it is still too long, whole sentences come off the end, never half of one. Only a single sentence longer than the whole video is cut short, at a pause, and RawCut tells you which length keeps it whole.

Pauses and restarts, cleaned up

What it leaves alone, on purpose

Filler words like "um" and "you know" stay in. Cutting every one of them makes people sound robotic and puts a jump in every other second. RawCut takes out the parts that waste time, not the parts that make you sound human.

Add captions

Talking videos are where captions matter most. Tap Subtitles and what you said appears in time with your words, in one of four styles.

What it doesn't do

Shots play one after another. RawCut doesn't lay scenery over your voice while you keep talking, so a talking shot shows you talking. And in a timed script with exact seconds per block, the timings win over whole sentences.

Questions

How do I edit a talking video without cutting off sentences?

Use an editor that cuts on sentences instead of on length. RawCut extends every talking moment to the whole sentence and trims shots without speech first when the video has to get shorter. If it is still too long, whole sentences come off the end.

Can RawCut remove pauses from my talking video?

Yes. Long hesitations are shortened to a short beat and a few words you started over are cut back to the second try. The joins are covered with a small punch-in zoom so they look deliberate.

Does RawCut remove filler words like um?

No, on purpose. Removing every filler word makes speech sound robotic and adds a jump cut every few seconds. RawCut removes long pauses and restarts instead.

Can I put b-roll over my voice?

Not at the moment. Shots play one after another, so a talking shot shows the person talking. You can mix talking shots and scenery shots in one video.
