Privacy Policy
Last updated: 16 July 2026 · Effective: 16 July 2026
RawCut ("we", "us") is an iPhone app that turns your own video clips into short videos. This policy explains what the app does with your footage and data. We built it to keep your footage on your device. This policy describes that in plain terms.
Your videos stay on your device
The clips in your library are references to videos in your iOS Photos library. Your original video files are never uploaded to us or anyone else. They stay on your iPhone.
What is sent for analysis
To find the right moments for your script, the app analyzes each clip once. For that analysis it sends, on your behalf, to Google's Gemini API:
- a small number of downscaled still frames sampled from the clip (not the video itself), and
- a short, low-quality audio track of the clip, used to transcribe any spoken words.
The model returns text descriptions and a transcript, which are stored on your device and reused, so a clip is never analyzed twice. Your full-resolution video is never sent.
Google as a processor
The frames and audio described above are processed by Google via the Gemini API to generate the analysis. Google processes this data under its API terms. RawCut uses the paid API tier, under which Google states that submitted data is not used to train its models. See Google's Gemini API terms.
How the app talks to the AI
The app does not contain any AI credentials. Analysis requests go through our own backend, which verifies they come from a genuine copy of the app (Apple App Check) and forwards them to the Gemini API. We do not store your frames or audio on our backend; it only relays them.
Accounts
You can add and analyze clips without an account. Creating a video requires a free account (email & password, or Sign in with Apple). For signed-in users we store, in our database: your email address (via Firebase Authentication), your plan tier, and a count of how many videos you have created (used to enforce the free plan's limits). You can delete your account at any time in the app under Profile → Delete account, which removes this data.
Analytics
The app collects anonymous, aggregated usage data via Firebase Analytics to improve how videos are assembled, for example which features are used and whether a generated cut was kept, edited or regenerated. This data contains no video, images, script text or transcripts, only numbers and feature flags. It is on by default; you can turn it off at any time in the app under Profile → Privacy → "Help improve RawCut". The app contains no third-party advertising SDKs.
Data we store
Your library, the on-device analysis cache, and your projects are stored locally on your iPhone. You can remove them by deleting your account in the app (Profile → Delete account) or by deleting the app.
Children
RawCut is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country), and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Changes
We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be reflected here with a new "Last updated" date.
